There are five rules that drive my classroom. Each of these rules is important to the overall classroom environment, and they must be followed by all students every day.
1. Listen to and follow directions.
When I’m giving instructions, students are expected to be tracking me with their eyes, listening closely, and not working on the task (or other tasks) until told.
2. Ask questions and make requests that are appropriate.
I am here to help my students learn and grow. When students ask appropriate questions and make appropriate requests, it allows me to guide their learning and the learning of others.
3. Respect your classmates and your teacher.
My classroom is based on an understanding of mutual respect. When we are kind to one another, the learning environment is welcoming and allows us to accomplish more together.
4. Always come prepared.
Coming prepared with a fully charged Chromebook, a pencil, paper, and an SSR book allows students to be successful in English class. Without these materials, learning cannot occur to its fullest.
5. Practice civil discourse.
There are many facets of civil discourse, including listening to others, not speaking out or interrupting, not making fun, and accepting each other. What it truly boils down to is the fact that we won’t always agree with everyone and their values, but we will respect each other.
